We specialize in “Trophy Moose Hunts”. Many of you may have some experience hunting in Maine and may understand the complexities of taking a trophy moose. Some considerations you should make before selecting a guide service: 1. Moose - Knowing what you are hunting for is the most important consideration. Where to find a trophy is the first key to success. We know where the big moose are. The current state record has a spread (widest points between antlers) of 70”. While any moose should be considered a trophy we focus on 50 to 60” bulls. 2. Time - to pre-scout the areas where trophy moose live. Our guides know the woods where your trophy is living. Our bear hunting season keeps us in the woods from August to the end of Moose season. We know where the moose are so day one you can be at the right place. In zones where it makes sense we charter a plane to fly-scout the big cuts prior to the season so we know where the big bulls are roaming. 3. Fuel Cost – With fuel cost, hiring a guide will save you hundreds of dollars. On average we use a tank of fuel a day per vehicle. That can add up to over $400 - $500 per week per vehicle. 4. Lodging – Our main lodge is located in central Maine from where we can launch all of our hunts to all zones. If you are drawn in zones 8, 9, 10 & 14 you will stay at our Foxcroft River House on the banks of the Piscataquis River. We also have remote camps in zones 4 & 7 which give us access to areas above Moosehead Lake and in the western mountains. Our riverside lodge is designed to maximize your hunting time. Comfortable beds, showers, home cooked meals and laundry facilities. Our Elm Stream Remote Camp (T4 R16) is located in one of the best moose hunting territory in the state with quick access to zones 4, 8 & 9. It is a traditional rustic camp but has what is needed to make your hunt a success. 5. Food – You have 6 days to kill your trophy moose. Every minute that you can hunt should be spent on finding a trophy and not worrying about finding a place to eat or preparing food in remote areas takes time away from the hunt. 6. Experienced Guides – Knowledge is what it will take to harvest a trophy bull. Our guides are the best Maine has to offer. Our lead guides are Master Guides and each have over 35 years of experience guiding in the big Maine woods. We know when the pre-rut, the rut and post-rut locations are. We are expert callers and will pull that trophy into successful harvest range. 7. Muzzleloader and Archery. We specialize in getting close to trophy moose. The current Maine State Archery record listed above was guided by OAC Pro-staff member Nate Fenderson. 8. Trophy Care – Harvesting a trophy is only the beginning. Taking a big bull requires getting off the beaten path. Getting your trophy out is where the real work begins. We have both the knowledge and equipment (wheelers, heavy rope, come-along, winches, packs and even in some cases log skidders) depending on what zone we are in to get the moose out of the woods and into the freezer. This should not be taken lightly as many moose hunts have ended with trophies that are spoiled because proper preparation was not taken into consideration. The right equipment alone can cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars. 9. Processing – Depending on the temperature moose meat can spoil very fast. Getting the trophy properly field dressed, cooled down and to the closest butcher for processing is essential. We have the knowhow to ensure you will be able to enjoy the fruits of your harvest. 10. Client Care – Our two main goals is safety and success. All our guides are trained in basic life saving techniques. Safety is always first.
